Ableist Meaning and Definition

"Ableist" is an adjective used to describe attitudes, beliefs, practices, or behaviors that discriminate against or marginalize individuals with disabilities. Ableism is a form of prejudice and discrimination based on the idea that people with disabilities are inferior to those without disabilities or that they should be treated as such. It can manifest in various ways, such as exclusion, stereotypes, negative attitudes, lack of accessibility, or unfair treatment of people with disabilities.

Addressing ableism involves promoting inclusivity, equal opportunities, and respect for individuals with disabilities, as well as challenging and changing societal norms and practices that perpetuate discrimination. The goal is to create a more equitable and accessible society for everyone, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.
