EBITDA Definition & Meaning

"EBITDA" is an acronym that stands for "Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization." It is a financial metric used to assess the financial performance and profitability of a company. EBITDA is calculated by taking a company's net income and adding back interest expenses, taxes, depreciation, and amortization.

EBITDA is often used by investors, analysts, and financial professionals to get a clearer picture of a company's operational performance, as it excludes the impact of financing (interest and taxes) and non-cash expenses (depreciation and amortization). By focusing on the core operating earnings, EBITDA provides a better measure of a company's ability to generate cash flow from its primary operations.

However, it's important to note that EBITDA has its limitations and should be used in conjunction with other financial metrics when evaluating a company's financial health and prospects, as it does not account for all expenses and financial obligations.
